Sandia’s International Biological Threat Reduction (IBTR), a division of Sandia’s Global Security Programs, enhances United States and international security by reducing biological threats worldwide. The highest goals of Sandia’s International Biological Threat Reduction program are: (1) Promote the responsible use of biological agents, equipment, and expertise at bioscience facilities (2) Strengthen capacities to detect and control dangerous biological agents (3) Improve understanding and mitigation of accidental and deliberate biological risk.

Sandia is a government-owned/contractor operated (GOCO) facility. Sandia Corporation, a Lockheed Martin company, manages Sandia for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration.
