African swine fever virus outbreaks in Ukraine
(Interfax) African swine fever has been registered in Zaporizhia region, the State Veterinary and Biosecurity Service of Ukraine has reported. The report says that losses of pigs from the virus were registered in Komyshuvatka, Zaporizhia region in a private household. The possible source of infection could be people from Russia coming to Ukraine on holidays with meat products.

Increase in Genomic Replikin Counts Predicted Recent Avian Flu (H5N1) Outbreak in Cambodia
(The Sacramento Bee) A marked increase in the H5N1 pB1 Lethality Gene Replikin Count (number of Replikins per 100 amino acids) in Cambodia in 2009 provided a warning for the outbreaks of the Avian Flu (H5N1) with human deaths in that country. Eight deaths were reported in 2011 and three thus far in 2012.

Worries mount over bison anthrax outbreak in Northwest Territories
