Senior government decision makers will provide progress updates on biodefense and public health initiatives for advance medical countermeasures (MCM) development.

The 10th Annual Biodefense Vaccines & Therapeutics conference, June 6-7, 2012, will provide progress-to-date of the various medical countermeasures (MCM) initiatives from the PHEMCE Review and how they will impact the biodefense and the broader public health sector. Senior government representatives will detail the many initiatives, how these initiatives are helping to incentivize private sector and academia participation, and what opportunities are being created to drive growth in medical countermeasures for CBRN and emerging infectious diseases threats. Moreover, the conference will provide insights into how emerging infectious threats and public health concerns will shape BARDA’s use of its Special Reserve Fund and the potential impacts on the biodefense industry.

As in years past, the conference will include the Technical Symposium – Latest Innovative R&D, on June 5, 2012, where leading researchers will highlight groundbreaking research being conducted to address the threats of biothreat agents, multidrug resistance, and emerging infectious diseases.

The 2012 meeting will introduce the new and very topical Forum on Drug Resistance and Emerging Infectious Diseases: Meeting the Challenge, on June 7-8, 2012, to tackle the rising global threat posed by antimicrobial/antibiotic resistant organism and emerging infectious diseases. Drug resistance among Gram-positive and Gramnegative bacteria has reached more than 25% in certain OECD countries, while the armamentarium of available medical countermeasures is at its lowest point since 1928. The development of effective and affordable antimicrobial and antibiotic drugs and diagnostics devices is now more important than ever. Join experts from government, pharmaceutical and biotech firms, NGOs and academia as they explore the latest challenges, research initiatives and funding opportunities.
