Biosecurity New Zealand
Biosecurity New Zealand is the division within MAF charged with leadership of the New Zealand biosecurity system. It encompasses facilitating international trade, protecting the health of New Zealanders and ensuring the welfare of our environment, flora and fauna, marine life and Maori resources.

NZBIO
NZBIO is the national peak body representing the bioscience-based industries of New Zealand.

Biotechnology Sector
The Biotechnology Sector Taskforce sets priorities and develops action plans for stimulating the growth and international competitiveness of New Zealand’s biotechnology sector in the areas of health, agriculture, justice, environment, and manufacturing.

Policy Planning Division
The Policy and Planning Division has both Ministry of Defence and New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) staff and provides advice on the Government’s defence policy and the military capabilities. This division is divided into the International Defence Relations Branch, the Strategic Policy Branch, and the Strategic and Capability Analysis Unit.


Specialized Centers/Institutions:

AgResearch
AgResearch is New Zealand’s largest government-owned Crown Research Institute (CRI) with acknowledged expertise in biological science. Research is conducted to develop biotechnologies to promote agriculture.

BioProtection Research Centre
Research focuses on finding new, non-pesticide and sustainable solutions that protect New Zealand’s plant-based, productive ecosystems from existing and potentially invasive pests, diseases and weeds.

Health Research Council of New Zealand (HRC)
HRC is the Crown agency responsible for the management of the Government’s investment in public good health research.
